Matthew Perry was a shining light who conquered many hearts. He seemed like the type of guy who had everything right in his life, however, that was not the truth. Inside, he was dealing with pain like no other.
Matthew was pronounced dead on Oct 28, 2024 at the age of 54. Perry was found unresponsive in a jacuzzi in his home in Los Angeles. Many thought his death was a tragic accident, but that wasn’t the case. Five defendants, including two doctors, were charged with the murder of Matthew Perry. These defendants are Jasveen Sangha, Dr.Salvador Plasencia, Dr. Mark Chavez, Eric Felming, and Kenneth Iwamasa.
United States Attorney Martin Estrada states, “These defendants cared more about profiting off of Mr. Perry than caring for his well-being.” These five suspects each played a key role in his death by falsely prescribing, selling, or injecting ketamine that caused Perry to pass away.
During Matthew Perry’s childhood, he was often alone and he often felt a sense of abandonment. Between the ages of 10 and 13, he would steal money, smoke, drink, and at one point he even beat up his classmate. It is believed his actions in childhood were him “acting out” in response to his childhood.
Matthew Perry confessed in his memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, that his addiction grew rapidly after a jet ski accident in 1997. Over the years, he was taking up to 55 pills a day and weighed an unhealthy amount of 128 pounds.
His polysubstance addiction was so encompassing that he was hospitalized and put into a coma for two months. Matthew entered 6,000 alcoholic meetings and was admitted to rehab 15 times. In 2013, Perry decided to focus on sobriety and in 2018 he underwent surgery to repair a gastrointestinal perforation caused by opioid abuse.
When Matthew woke up, his mother informed Perry his colon exploded. Doctors said he had a 2% chance of living. From that point on, Matthew devoted his life to helping others with drug addictions and, because of that, he renovated his beach house into a sober living home for men. It was also reported he was starting a foundation aimed at helping others fight the substance.
Many of his co-stars, family members, and close friends are still mourning the loss of Matthew Perry. Lisa Kudrow, who co-started in the show “Friends” with Perry, wrote, “So, I just focused on Matthew, who could make me laugh so hard every day, and once a week, laugh so hard I cried and couldn’t breathe. He was there, Matthew Perry, who is whip smart…charming, sweet, sensitive, very reasonable and rational.” Matthew is gone but never forgotten.
