Sports are one of the most popular pastimes in America. Billions of people tune into sports year round. Anything from basketball to football to football(soccer) to even cricket. And where sports fans go, sports opinions follow. Opinions on players, teams, organizations, and the sport as a whole are talked about among fans. Some of the top media personalities and experts have taken advantage of this by making podcasts giving their opinions on their sport and bringing people on to debate/discuss. Here are 5 podcasts I’d recommend for someone who is looking for a sports podcast to listen to in their free time that is trustworthy, entertaining, and intriguing.
The Bill Simmons Podcast
The Bill Simmons podcast is the most downloaded sports podcast of all time. Bill Simmons is known for being one of the more entertaining podcasts in sports, where Bill brings on plenty of guests to keep the podcast entertaining. Many of his more popular podcast episodes have star guests like current and former NBA players and other sports personalities that are pretty famous. The podcast’s main focus is the NBA, but it covers all sports around the US. Overall, if you’re looking for a podcast to get you started in the sports podcast world, this would probably be the one I’d recommend.
New Heights
For fans of the NFL, there is New Heights with Travis and Jason Kelce. This podcast is an NFL only podcast that goes over current NFL news and debates while being able to bring up previous experiences from both Travis Kelce and Jason Kelces’ careers. Their funny personalities paired with their knowledge and experience on the NFL makes this podcast one of the more entertaining and recommended across the internet. Clips of this podcast on TikTok usually go pretty viral, which brings the podcast more recognition. If you are a strictly NFL or even just a strictly football watcher, this is the podcast I’d recommend for you.
Pardon My Take
Pardon My Take is a podcast I’d recommend for the people that like to hear about sports but in a more comedic way. This podcast is another mainly NFL podcast, but they do cover all sports year round. This podcast is a lot less structured than other sports podcasts as they tend to go deep in detail and tend to laugh a lot which prolongs the podcasts. This is the main reason why most of their episodes are over 2 hours long, which is a pretty lengthy episode. They also release episodes 3 times a week, which is a rapid pace for a podcast. I’d recommend this podcast to any real sports fans who have the time to listen to lengthy episodes.
The Pat McAfee Show
Another podcast that has a lot of laughs and comedy in it is The Pat McAfee Show. I would say out of all the sports podcasts, The Pat McAfee Show is the most popular podcast right now. In the last month, they created over 1 billion views across all social media platforms. Pat McAfee himself is a former NFL punter for the Indianapolis Colts but is more known for his gimmicks and making people laugh than bringing sports information. Most of that comes from the guests he brings on to the show. On accomplishing 1 billion views in a month, Burke Magnus, ESPN’s president of content said, “Pat’s impact is undeniable, and we are thrilled with the phenomenal results his show continues to achieve.” If you’re someone who likes to laugh a lot while listening to sports, this is the podcast I’d recommend to you.
The Lowe Post
A lot of the podcasts I’ve recommended so far have had hosts with a little comedy in them. If you’re looking for straight basketball talk without the bullcrap, The Lowe Post is the perfect podcast for you. Zach Lowe is a great informational host and is an expert with all the stats and how to put them into real sports conversations and debates. Even though he’s a strictly basketball podcaster, the amount of depth he can bring to the podcast and how deep he can go into the analytics makes him highly respected among his peers. So, if you’re a guy who wants straight analytics without all the comedy, this is the podcast I’d recommend to you.
Sports podcasts are gaining a lot of popularity on social media. All of these podcasts can be found on Apple Podcasts or Spotify. I’d recommend going out and doing your own research, as there are plenty of other sports podcasts across the internet that could be better than the ones I recommended. So make sure you find the right one!
