The NCAA Football National Championship will be played on Monday, January 19th between Miami and Indiana. This is the 2nd year of the 12 team college football playoffs. The championship game will be ACC vs Big Ten. For the third straight year, the “best college football conference” will not be present at the game. The SEC is known as the best college football conference, but as of recently they have fallen off. The 12 team college football playoffs could be to blame. Indiana is the undefeated BIG 10 champs and the 1 seed, and Miami is the 10 seed with 2 losses who barely snuck into the Playoffs.
Indiana has Heisman quarterback winner Fernando Mendoza who is a California transfer. Head coach Curt Cignette has completely turned the Hoosiers program around in just 2 years, qualifying for the playoffs last year and making the national championship this year. The Hoosiers handled business, beating Oregon 56-22. This is their 2nd time beating Oregon this year, leading to both of the Ducks’s losses. The Hoosiers seem to be the team to beat this season, being 15–0.
Miami is 13-2 with transfer quarterback Carson Beck. Miami has been on a Cinderella run, starting as the 10 seed and working their way to the National Championship. Head coach Mario Cristobal has done a good job leading this team. 18 year old freshman, Malachi Toney, is one of Miami’s best offensive players at wide receiver 1. Miami has a high powered offense who has helped them get here. This is an anticipated matchup as these schools have not played each other yet this season. Indiana is looking to get their first national championship and Miami is looking to get their 6th.
