Growing up, most of us have always been told that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But have you ever taken a second and thought about why that may be true? Eating breakfast not only creates a good routine and keeps your stomach full until lunch, but there’s also many benefits academically that may convince you to pick up that banana on your way out the door.
To start off, let’s learn what happens to all the nutrients in your body over night. Your body continues to break down and adsorb all the nutrients, this happens at a much slower rate than when you’re awake. This makes it less efficient than if you were to be awake. Your body then tries to repair itself while it does not have to consistently digest any new foods coming in. When you wake up, everything is fresh and people tend to be pretty hungry.
When you wake up from sleeping for so long you need to end the fast you unintentionally went on. Eating something replenishes your alertness, boosts your energy, helps you concentrate, and much more! This also helps you regulate your appetite which prevents different issues in the future.
When it comes to academics, students are way more likely to succeed with a full stomach. It has been proven that eating something before big responsibilities betters your performance. Your brain needs that energy in order to focus on what you’re working on, and even to feel motivated to do it in the first place. Young children need nutrients to grow, and skipping out on these meals may affect their time at school and eventually their overall development.
Overall there are many benefits to eating breakfast, and not many downsides to doing this. So I would recommend making a little extra time to eat something before you head out the door for school. As long as you are doing what is best for yourself there is no way you can fail!
