The 2026 golf season kicked off 2 weeks ago on January 15th with the Sony Open in Hawaii. This led to Chris Gotterup winning his first Sony Open. Just this past weekend, starting on January 22nd, The American Express was held in California. Scottie Scheffler won and got the 20th win of his career in his 151 starts. Scheffler has been the number one player in the world for years. He’s dominated the golf world and is continuing to dominate it. Scottie Scheffler is looking to complete his grand slam needing only the U.S open to complete. Likewise, just last year, Rory McIlroy completed his grand slam by winning the masters in a shoot out against Justin Rose. Some of the Up and coming golfers like Blades Brown who is an 18 year old who just finished top 10 in the American Express. He skipped college to go straight to the PGA. He is a 1 of 1 talent and has a long career ahead of him.
The first Major of the golf season is The Masters which will be held in April at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia. This is the biggest golf tournament of the year, one that all the professional golfers want to have under their belt. The golf season will then start to heat up as The Masters is followed by top tournaments and three Majors all held over the summer. This includes The PGA Championship and The U.S Open.
Although the PGA hosts some of the top tournaments year round, including The PGA Championship, in recent years they have lost more golfers than expected. LIV Golf is a company based overseas who is trying to buy PGA golfers to go play for them. This just started a couple years ago and the media is seeing top golfers in the PGA go over to LIV because they are getting offered a better contract. Some people think that LIV golf is the new PGA. As of recently we have seen some top golfers like Brooks Keopka and Patrick Reed putting in requests to get back into PGA. Unfortunately for them, the PGA has been strict about letting LIV golfers back into their association. Lots of people now agree that since the playing field is split between PGA and LIV, it will be easier to win a tournament in the PGA. This is because LIV golfers are not allowed to golf in PGA hosted tournaments, only the Majors. We are entering the beginning of a new era.
