Two years ago if someone asked me when the last time I willingly read a book was, I wouldn’t know what to respond with. I used to hate reading because it always felt more like a chore than something I could enjoy. It was always super hard for me to find a book that didn’t bore me to death. I would start books, never be able to finish them, and just assume that reading wasn’t for me.
Picking out books that interest you can be extremely difficult if you don’t know what you’re looking for; Here is my advice and recommendations. Since the beginning of the school year I have read about 20 books. Here is what worked for me!
Starting strong is A Good Girls Guide To Murder sequel by Holly Jackson. It is a good book for beginners to get your foot in the door and start reading. Another great book by Holly Jackson is The Reappearance of Rachel Price, it’s a fairly easy read and great at grabbing your attention and keeping it.
Riley Sager is another amazing thriller/ murder mystery author. There are two books I have read and would highly recommend. The House Across The Lake and The Only One Left are both a little more mature but absolutely phenomenal books. Both have amazing story lines and the plot twist in the Only One Left is so so so unexpected. There are many other thrillers by Riley Sager to choose from.
Lastly, I would highly recommend any Frida McFadden thrillers, she offers fast paced, addictive, easy to read thrillers. Some options by her are Housemaid, Never Lie, and The Boyfriend. These are her top rated books for beginners but there are many more to choose from.
Thriller books changed my perspective on reading. They are super fast paced and full of suspense, leaving you no time to be bored because you’ll be wondering what happens next. Now, rather than forcing myself to read I find myself wishing there was more time in the day for me to read. Between the tension, unexpected turns, and insane plot twists you will also be completely hooked on thrillers. There is always a mystery that needs to be solved or danger lurking around the corner when you’re least expecting it.
Deemacks famous librarian Mr. McCoy states “Thrillers hook students quickly rather than slow character development. It keeps you wanting more and more.” Thrillers make you thirst for the outcome to see who done it (Clue style) for hope week.
Go to your closest library and pick up a thriller! You won’t regret it.
