Rachel is a senior in the class of 2025. She is the Co-President of the senior class and student council, the vice president of NHS, and the stage manager of the drama club. Her favorite subject in school is English because she enjoys creative writing and focusing on one thing and letting her creativity take control. During the summer and some weekends, she works and volunteers at Timber Pointe Outdoor Center, an Easter Seals camp that also hosts Camp Hope. Rachel chose journalism because she wanted to take as many writing related classes as she could this semester because it’s her senior year and she knew she would enjoy them. She also said, “It’s a good creative output. Also because I love Gilmore Girls, and now I’m Rory Gilmore”. When asked if she prefers the aisle or window seat on a plane, she said she prefers the aisle seat because she wouldn’t want to wake up someone sitting next to her to use the bathroom.
Mackenzie Knowles is entering her senior year at Dee-Mack High School. She participates in the student council and National Honors Society. She enjoys journalism class because “this class will make students more involved with school activities”. She was excited to join journalism because she has a passion for sports and wanted to be involved with reporting it for the class. She also participates in volleyball, basketball, softball, and track. Her plans for the future include studying radiology, but she’s unsure which school she wants to attend.
Ava Finch is a junior at Dee-Mack High School. She is a part of the school’s golf team, but her passion is preaching and leading in her church’s ministries. Her favorite teacher is Mrs. Smallwood because she listens to Ava talk about her troubles and she enjoys being listened to. When asked why she chose journalism, she explained that she enjoys writing creatively and while she has written essays about religion in the past, she is specifically excited to have a writing output that she can be more open with. She covers school events and pop culture, and she said “I have the best hot takes when it comes to movies and music and I think everyone should know about them”. While her biggest dream is yet to be determined, her littlest dream is to be able to do a cartwheel.
Gracie is a senior here at Dee-Mack. She moved here in 4th grade and has been here ever since. Her favorite subject is journalism because it allows students to feel more included with school activities. She said “I wanted to do features to make people feel special!” when asked about her role in journalism. She wanted to join journalism because Ms. Hammond makes it exciting, and she is passionate about it. Gracie has played basketball all 4 years at Dee-Mack and has participated in other sports along the way. She is taking three ICC classes this semester, English, Psych, and Communications.

Kinley Keehnen is a senior in high school. She plays on the volleyball team as a defensive specialist. In her free time, she enjoys cooking and hanging out with her friends. She wants to pursue a career in culinary arts. Her favorite dish to cook is lasagna. She loves to travel. She wants to go to Jamaica because of her love for the sun and beaches. English with Mrs. Thompkins is her favorite hour of the school day. In journalism, she is excited to cover student life because she wants to interview people and feature the student section. Kinley says she chose to take journalism because writing and speaking through articles is a great way to express yourself and other people. One piece of advice Kinley has taken from the past few years is, “Don’t take things too seriously, and have fun while doing it.”
Chuck is a 2025 graduate participating in football, baseball, and senior student council. He is a part of the journalism class because Ms. Hammond persuaded him to take it for his senior year. Chuck isn’t sure yet if he wants to make money by going to work or going to college to play baseball. He is taking two ICC classes including Psychology and English. He thinks they are kind of hard but not overwhelming. The football team will be pretty good this year according to him.
Lucas Holly is a senior at DMHS and a pitcher for the Dee-Mack Chiefs. Lucas has been playing baseball since he could walk and is currently preparing for the 2025 season. His favorite part of baseball is pitching, and he is about to reach 90 MPH. In his free time, Lucas enjoys watching The Chicago Cubs, The New York Knicks, The Chicago Bears and Bradley basketball.
Vinnie Weeks is a junior at DMHS, and his main interest in journalism is investigative reporting. His extracurricular activities include FCA and Scholastic Bowl. He has an interest in pursuing a career in journalism and loves that he finally has a chance to branch into it. Some fun facts about Vinnie is that he likes Barq’s Root Beer, and his last meal would be a cheeseburger made by Guy Fieri. When asked what superhero he would be, his top three picks were Batman, Daredevil, and Spiderman. “I just want to report the truth!” – Vinnie
Norah Scroggs is a junior who plans to graduate early in 2025. She has two jobs, working as a cashier in the restaurant area at the Garden Gates Tea Room and working at New Castle church. During her free time she enjoys hiking, drawing, painting, playing golf, and reading. Norah loves to draw flowers, trees, and landscapes, though she claims she can’t draw people. An experience that shaped Norah is growing up watching both of her parents become special education directors. She volunteered at Camp Hope last year and enjoyed it so much, stating, “I love to see the kids and how happy they are.”
Allison Humphries is a 17 year old student reporter for DMHS. Allison moved here in eighth grade from Lexington, Illinois. When she isn’t in school, she works at Busy Corner in Goodfield cleaning tables. Allison’s favorite season is summer, and she has a remaining fear of clowns from her childhood.
