The big game is here and after 18 weeks of football and 3 weeks of playoffs the Super Bowl is only a few days away. The Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs will face off in the Super Bowl. The Eagles are trying to get revenge on the Chiefs from a few years back when the Chiefs beat them by three. While the Chiefs are going for a 3 peat. The Chiefs only lost two games this year with one coming in the final week of the regular season with them sitting all of their starters, and their other loss on the year was to the Buffalo Bills who were the second seed in the AFC behind the Chiefs who earned the one seed.
The Eagles are led behind their quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Saquan Barkley. Barkely put up an historic season as he tallied just over 2,000 rushing yards and being only one hundred or so yards off of breaking the all time NFL rushing record held by Eric Dickerson with 2,105 yards. While the Eagles didn’t have as dominant of a season, they got hot at the right time leading them to the Super Bowl while defeating the Packers, Rams, and the Commanders who were the Eagles last loss of the regular season as they ended the year with a record of 14-3. The Eagles are well known for their signature play nicknamed the Tush-Push or the Brotherly Shove. Which we will certainly see during the game on Sunday. They mainly use this play in short yardage situations like on the goal line. The reason for this success is their outstanding offensive line. This will be a story of the game since the Chiefs aren’t known for their front 7 and rely on their secondary on the defensive side. This can particularly hurt the Chiefs since the best running back in football is on the other side and can run wild if they can’t stop the Eagles front 7.
For the Chiefs they are led by Patrick Mahomes who is the story of the super bowl since he is going for his 4th Super Bowl in 7 years and his third in a row. This would put him into the history books being the first three-peat in the Super Bowl era. While he has had arguably his worst season of his career in terms of wins and losses it has been his best. He also had his worst receiving corps this season as he was without his wide receiver one in Rachee Rice. He also lost his other top receiving target last season in Marquez Valdes-Scantling who is now with the Saints. While the Chiefs don’t have the most known names in the league they do have THE name in Patrick Mahomes. They also have Travis Kelce who is a veteran tight end who is ending his prime and has been relatively quiet, but can bring a veteran presence and break off big plays that help get the Chiefs offense in rhythm. The biggest thing for the Chiefs and how they will likely win the game is coaching. They have one of the most successful and tenured coaches in the NFL in Andy Reid and defensive coordinator in Steve Spagnuolo who has been very successful in Kansas City. What it comes down to for Kansas City is how clean of a football game they can play. If they can limit turnovers and penalties then they have a very good chance of winning their third Super Bowl in a row.
While this isn’t the super bowl everyone asked for, it is an amazing and intriguing match-up or rematch from a few years ago. Along with the chance of seeing a 3 peat from the Chiefs the chance of the Eagles avenging their heartbreaking loss from a few years ago, plus the turmoil the franchise had after they lost in the Wild Card last year and weather or not they should fire head coach Nick Siriani create great story lines to watch for this year. As long as the Chiefs can limit turnovers and play a clean football game I think they will win the game but on the other hand if the Eagles can put pressure on Mahomes they can wear down the Chiefs and run away with the game. In my opinion as long as the Chiefs can keep the game close they will win due to their coaching and experience.
