Homecoming week is right around the corner, and student council has been working hard planning the best week of the school year! This year, student council is bringing back a classic theme: Let the Games Begin! Let’s dive into the theme:
The seniors theme is board games. Senior, Sophia Schimmelpfenning is excited to spend time with her classmates and do everything they can to win the float and the hallway. She mentioned that people can expect to see life sized board game pieces with students and teachers incorporated into it. There will be lots of exciting colors and patterns on both the float and in the hallway.
The juniors had the second pick for class theme and chose arcade games. Maddie McCombs is hoping that the class of 2027 will continue to go undefeated in the float decorating contest. She mentioned that parade viewers will feel like they are stepping into an arcade game, and the hallway will be filled with retro arcade games, 80s colors, and more!
With the third pick for class theme, the sophomores decided on video games. Class President, Oliver Weishaupt noted that the sophomores will have a Fortnite themed float and a Minecraft themed hallway. He expects both the hallway and float to be immersive and fun for gamers and non gamers alike!
Freshmen class sponsor, Mrs. Fogle has high hopes for the class of 2029 and their decorations. She said, “as far as the hallway goes, you should expect to see a LOT of jazz and pizazz. Our theme is card games and we are going with a poker/game night theme. The freshmen are all working hard and are super excited to make this the best hallway yet! For the freshmen float, we are sticking with the same theme of card games and poker. We are getting tons of supplies to make this a wonderful float. We [class of 2027 as freshmen] won the float 2 years ago. We are ready to redeem ourselves, and with this freshmen class and how pumped up they are about this, I really think we can bring home the win this year.”
The floats and hallways are not the only thing to look forward to during homecoming week. On Monday, students have the opportunity to buy Krispy Kreme donuts and wear pajamas. Tuesday is poker face; wear your fancy poker clothes, and don’t forget to bring money to buy sodas! Wednesday is a busy and fun day at the High School. During the day, the school favorite, oreo balls will be sold, and the dress up theme is Sorry Vikings: wear your class colors and/or powderpuff shirts. Freshmen wear purple, Sophomores wear neon yellow, Juniors wear blue, and Seniors wear black and pink. On Wednesday at 6 pm, come to the football field and cheer on your powderpuff teams! Between games, the boys will be performing their dances, homecoming court will be announced, and the new homecoming king and queen will be revealed. After powderpuff, students can gather around a bonfire in the grass lot. There will be s’mores stations, lawn games, and time to hang out with friends (and powderpuff opponents). On Thursday, break out your mom’s old fishnets and vintage clothes for 80s/90s day! Lofthouse cookies will be for sale that day.
Finally, the big day! Friday is a school favorite because there are no classes! On Friday, student council will be putting on the annual field day! Rease Kelley’s article will go into detail about what students can expect. Friday’s dress up day is school spirit. Coffee from Revive Roasting in Goodfield, Illinois will be sold by student council members. After the 1:30 dismissal on Friday, the parade will go through town. There, you can see your football, volleyball, cheerleading, golf, band, and cross country teams along with the class floats, homecoming court, grand marshal and more!
This year’s grand marshals are Brett and Christine Zehr. The Zehr’s have been a huge part of our community for many years. From giving high school students jobs at the IGA, to leading the choir in piano, the Zehrs are incredible assets to the students at the high school. From the Red and White Review, thank you to the Zehr family!
The Chiefs football team hosts the Tri Valley Vikings at 7:00 pm on Friday Night. The student section needs to come support cheer, band, and our Dee-Mack Chiefs football! The theme on Friday is USA, so show up in your red, white, and blue! The overall winning class of homecoming will be announced on Friday at the football game. After a long week of lots of fun, one last activity remains. The homecoming dance is on Saturday, September 20th from 7-9pm. We hope to see you there!
