Fall Sports Preview 2025

This season brings us football, volleyball, cross country, golf, and the spirit team!

As the summer season winds down, the fall sports season is upon us. We have five fall sports here at Dee-Mack, which include our volleyball, football, cross country, golf, and spirit team! We interviewed some players and coaches, and they all had very exciting things to say about the upcoming seasons!

This year’s spirit team is very excited for the upcoming season! Last August they had to face the challenge of getting a new head coach, Jeanie Fogle, and this year another helpful hand, Courtney Fry! When Coach Fogle was asked what she would like to improve on as a team this year compared to her first year as a coach, she stated, “we received a lot of compliments last season on our performances, and I want a lot more compliments this season. I want the girls to feel confident and beautiful and awesome after each performance because they’re all so wonderful.” She took these goals to a whole new level this past summer when the team got to try lots of new and improved things. During this year’s off-season, the girls had the privilege of attending a skills camp with some experienced cheer coaches. This helped them improve their stunting and even some dance moves! The girls are now showcasing their pregame routine, including the school song, and their halftime show performance at the upcoming home football games. One thing most people don’t know about the spirit team is that they come up with a new routine for each game. When senior team member Emma Lovelace was asked what she wished more people knew about the team, she said “How hard we work… and how much we sweat, we do the same thing all the other sports do but we never get the same recognition, and I think we do a great job!” We encourage you to show your support for the spirit team by attending the upcoming games!

The Dee-Mack volleyball season is about to begin with returning varsity players, new goals, and new freshman members. Last year, the girls had an outstanding record of 11-1 in conference play, despite the obstacles that came with having a brand new coach, Dee-Mack alum Addie Patton, the girls performed amazingly and showcased lots of talent. This year, the girls are hoping to deliver a solid performance on the court again, and senior Katie Whitson believes that they will be able to make it further in the postseason. “I think we have a lot of good upperclassmen and a lot of good girls in general, and I think with the class change we have a better chance of making it further in the postseason.” The girls next home game is Thursday, September 11th against our rival, Tremont! The theme is camo, so make sure you attend to support our girls!

FOOTBALL TEAM

As the school year starts, most students can agree on one thing, football season is the best time of year! Last season, the team had a 5-5 record overall, and were ranked fifth in conference play. The boys are hoping to make it to the playoffs once again this year, and make it even further than they have before. Last year, the team welcomed a new coach, Tim Finney. Now in his second season coaching Dee-Mack football, we asked him what advice he would give to the freshman players. “I would say just have realistic expectations and just try to learn the game the way we play it.” Hopefully with Coach Finney’s advice and techniques, our freshman players can become key aspects on the field. The boys have an away game against our rival school, the Tremont Turks, on Friday, September 5th. The theme is country vs. country club, so come out and support our football team and show some school spirit! Go Chiefs!

GOLF TEAM

Golf is a relatively new sport here at Dee-Mack, being introduced just in the last three years. This upcoming golf season, the team has a new head coach, Ron Seibert. The team is looking forward to having more improvements and an even better performance this season. Coach Seibert’s knowledge of the game will provide our players with some guidance and a new set of skills to showcase during their matches! Returning senior, Gabe Houchin says that his goals for the golf season are to take himself, and his fellow team members to sectionals and to qualify for state.

CROSS COUNTRY TEAM

The cross country team plans on improving as much as possible and going as far as possible in their post-season this year. With yet another season shaping up to be a great one, senior Lincoln Rassi was asked what his favorite meet of the year is. “My favorite meet of the year is probably El Paso… we get to go through three creeks and it’s a lot of fun because he doesn’t care how fast we go.”
