With the Thanksgiving and Christmas season coming around,  arguments are once again arising about when the Christmas season truly starts. In order to solve this debate, I polled the students at Dee-Mack High School to determine whether they start celebrating Christmas before or after Thanksgiving!

Here’s what Dee-Mack had to say…

  • 30% said they start celebrating before.
  • 70% said they start celebrating after.

Those who start early said…

“I like to start decorating at this time so I have time to do my whole room and our whole house inside and out. Also gives me lots of time to think about what presents Im getting my parents, sister, friends, and boyfriend.”

“I start celebrating early because it brings joy to the gloomy cold weather, and the turkey tastes the same with the Christmas tree up.”

“Christmas is a season, while Thanksgiving is a day or weekend at best. The turkey tastes the same with the tree up.”

Those who wait said…

“I don’t celebrate before Thanksgiving because it negates the importance of Thanksgiving and it takes away from the fact that Christmas is a day celebrating Christ’s birth, which happened on a set day, not over a season.”

“I start celebrating the day after Thanksgiving because there are no more big holidays in the way from Thanksgiving to Christmas. I do not start before Thanksgiving because I still feel like Thanksgiving is an autumn holiday that should not be celebrated with Christmas decorations up.”

“I start thinking of ideas and gifts before Thanksgiving but I don’t start celebrating before. I start celebrating the day after Thanksgiving.”

Whether you start you’ve already started separating or are still waiting for the 28th to come and go, I think we can all agree that we are looking forward to the holiday breaks. So, that said…

Just 3 days until Thanksgiving & 25 days until winter break!
