Luka Modl is one of our 2025-2026 high school foreign exchange students. He is from Munich, Germany, worldly known for the event, Octoberfest. Germany is a very punctual and structured country. Luka can fluently speak German, English, French, and a little bit of Japanese. He is currently learning Spanish and Russian. He is a kicker on the football team and plans on trying baseball later this year.
Luka implied that he wanted to become a foreign exchange student because, “my mom was an AU pair when she was twenty and she said it was an amazing experience, and I wanted to do something similar and I think it will help with speaking better English”. He also states that the schooling here has been a lot easier than Germany. He is very surprised with the freedom of America’s high schools and the low amount of required classes compared to electives.
He isn’t currently homesick because he feels like he has been very integrated in the people in town. He also implied that his host family and the Dee-Mack community have been very supportive and kind.
We are so excited to get to know more about Luka as the year progresses!
