Homecoming field day is a fun and interactive way to bring all the grade levels together with a little friendly competition. This takes place the Friday before homecoming which falls on the 19th this year. The events for field day will take place both inside and outside this year.
In years past, common events consisted of: tug-of-war, Mario cart, blindfolded dodge ball, table surfing, and everyone’s favorite the scavenger hunt. The scavenger hunt is one of the events that has the biggest build up. It requires class involvement and preparation leading up to field day.
This year, we are adding a few new activities including hungry hungry hippos and an obstacle course. Hungry Hungry hippos is a two person activity requiring one person to “steer” the other while on the scooter into the middle where all the balls are. The person on the scooter will then use a laundry basket to scoop up the balls and collect them. Whichever group ends up with the most items wins! The obstacle course is going to be one of our outdoor activities. Since homecoming takes place during the fall, the obstacle course is going to be football themed!
Participation plays a huge role in making field day fun and successful for all! Mrs. Uner and Ms. Putney, the student council sponsors, express how they love watching all the students participate, even the kids you wouldn’t expect. Field day takes away a day of academics means we need to have high participation to keep things running smoothly and make field day worth it!
After completing all of the fun field day games, we will travel back inside for the pep rally! During the pep rally, our spirit team will perform the school song along with the band to kick it off. We will then transition into fall sports captain interviews for football, volleyball, golf, and cross country! Homecoming court will then be re-announced and walk across the gym.To bring field day to an end, we will finish up with class cheering competitions earning the loudest class points.
Field day is a huge event that the student council puts a lot of effort and time into setting up and executing. With that being said, make sure to respect the rules, listen when they’re talking, participate in activities, and give a huge thank you to Mrs. Uner, Ms. Putney, and the whole student council! Without them, none of this would be possible!
