Mr. Vlastnik, the 2025 Graduation Speaker

This year, the senior class has selected Mr. Vlastnik (who the students lovingly call Mr. V) to give a speech at graduation, as well as wear a specially-made gown with the signature of the graduating students. Mr. V has shown passion for teaching and helping students to understand or learn more about topics that they are interested in. Greeting students with a smile outside his door, Mr. V is a great nominee for the honor of the graduation speech.

When asked about this, Mr. V expressed his gratitude for being asked, remarking upon the multitude of candidates, and how he is happy to have been asked out of all of the teachers that guide students through their high school career. He pointed out how he looked up to his teachers and college professors during his academic growth, and highlighted the impact that they had on his life, stating how he is glad to be able to have a similar impact on his students.

Discussing what he finds most enjoyable about teaching, Mr. V explained, “My favorite part about teaching would have to be when people ask questions. Just working through the question and helping the student through that process to find the answer.” This expands on Mr. V’s passion for helping his students understand the material and getting them interested in what they’re learning about together, an important quality to have in education.

Mr. V’s advice for the graduating class is this: “This proves that you can do it. That’s the biggest thing. You’ve put in the work to get to this place and that should be a confidence boost. The teachers didn’t make you pass. You passed yourself. Just remember that and stick with your ideas.”
