The superintendent’s hallway has been renovated recently to display student artwork. Here are some of my personal favorites:
“Untitled” – Quentin Gooch
I love the conceptual design of this piece, the coloring and everything really reminds me of some sort of cryptic horror like a lovecraftian design. The emptiness of the room, the giant eyeball, the tears and the plant, it’s an incredible design. I don’t really know Quentin all too well but I hope he continues in creating this sort of Art in the future.
“Savanna Demon-wester” – Peyton McGuirk
Now this something you would see on the walls of a dope tattoo parlor, Cartoonish yet captivating whoever Peyton is she did really amazing with this. Something about this screams to me a sort of Ulterior-Aesthetic like I’m never going to know who this is supposed to represent. All I can do is enjoy the chaotic feel that’s intertwined with the cutout and paste format to this piece. Honestly it’s almost graffiti like in its nature, like I would see it on a cargo train passing me by. I may not know who Peyton Mcguirk is but what i can say is that she is an amazing artist and I hope she composes more pieces like these as time moves on.
“Self-Portrait” – Piper Coats
This is easily the greatest piece up here, everything else is not even close. I love it. The Coloring is fantastic, the shading of her drooping eye bags is done masterfully, The detail of light reflecting in the eye, I really honestly think this is the most impressive piece up here,at least it’s my favorite piece up here. Every time I walk by it I breathe a breath of fresh air. If you have ever been strung out before you would know what i mean, this what this artwork speaks to me, A person who is strung out but still managing through it all, A Marla Singer/Mark Renton esque feeling. I couldn’t tell you who Piper Coats is, it’s just a name to me, but whoever she is I hope she knows that this piece is incredible and full of talent. It’s nice to think that when I walk in the halls there are incredible people around me with these awe-inspiring & profound pieces of artwork like this that can only be described as Divine.
“Untitled” – Jaylin Mcguirk
I mentioned earlier that another person’s artwork was Lovecraftain like, Well this one is literally a Cthulhu-Cat Hybrid beast. All silliness besides this is another one of my favorites. I really like how there’s multiple layers to the painting and the fact that the Cathulu is breaking the rules of conventionality by having him outside of the frame slightly. The Purple coloring in the dark blue water looks really well together Just a really enjoyable & funny piece of Artwork, Great work keep painting Jaylin!.
“Untitled” – Holly Hixon
Holly killed it here. I love the coloring on this portrait, the monochrome & grayscale colors are fantastically placed. The flowers that she’s holding are painfully realistic and I’m glad she went with the design choice of keeping the flowers blank of color. It really struck me, it leaves me with a feeling of absence like something is gone that should be there, but it’s not. Amazing piece, Great Job Holly!
“Untitled” – Reese Watson
Although simple, it’s hilarious. If you have had any classes with Reese then you would know that he loves to joke around, and here you can see some of his comedic expertise. I like to take this hallway to my classes whenever I can and I always have a laugh whenever I see this picture, very comical Reese good job!
“Surf Cat” – Savannah Schlosser-McGuirk
This picture can only be described as Zen-like, The use of the cascading colors of the sunset is just masterclass, the color palette in general just captures a feeling of serenity & calmness. It looks like an amazing place to just sit and pierce the environment with your gaze. Just look at how chill the cat is when he rides the wave he knows what’s up, in paradise. The layered pieces of the top of the wave make it seem the crashing of the wave is coming out of the canvas. This is easily my second favorite piece although it might look simple it feels grandiose. Fantastic Work Savanna I hope the world sees more of your Art!
