Libby Medlin's Art
The HOIC art festival takes place on February 28th, 2025. Dee-Mack High School will take 11 students. Senior, Libby Medlin mentioned a bit about the art festival saying that every year that she has gone has been a good experience. She enjoys the workshops that are provided and the social aspect that comes with it. Libby entered three pieces of art for this art show, one being a wooden sculpture looping in on itself, painted a sandy green to give it an interesting look and texture. Next was a collage including cyanotype, ink drawings, magazine clippings, and found drawings on a wooden panel. Libby’s last piece has actually been in the works since early on in her junior year. It started with her wanting to sculpt an anatomically correct heart out of clay. Though when she achieved this, she wasn’t entirely sure what else to do with it, scared that she would ruin a lot of hard work. So later on this year, she eventually returned to the sculpture, and attached objects such as the brass spigot, and used plaster and plaster strips to create a puddle with a splashing effect. The book she used was found in her house. She used this book to create a base for the sculpture. She speaks more on the art, “the symbolism was intended to represent pouring someone’s heart out when indulging in something they’re passionate about, such as literature.” Libby’s art titled, “The Fault in Our Scars” won best in show.
