Dalia Dejesus is one of the biggest faces of Dee-Mack basketball and has been since her freshman year. She participates in volleyball and basketball at school while also competing in AAU basketball over the summer. She has made a lifelong impact on the legacy of Dee-Mack Girls Basketball with her record breaking accomplishments. Just recently, Dalia scored 50 points against our rivals, the Tremont Turks. She went 60% from the field, with 14 rebounds and went 85% from the free throw line. The game before she dropped a subtle 30 points, going 14-14 from the free throw line. Dalia brings the energy, encouragement, and enthusiasm to her game and teammates. As a leader on and off the court, she is a shining example of a role model.
Dalia DeJesus, at just 16 years old, has broken numerous records in the past three years. She has broken the scoring records over career, in a single game, and has led her team to winning seasons breaking the win percentage and win total per season. Her points in a single game and career have been broken for both girls and boys. The previous career scoring record for girls was Addison Swadinsky with 1,230 points and the boys was Justin Schmidgall with 1,455. Dalia has surpassed both with a whole senior season ahead and the remaining junior season left to break more.
As a junior, Dalia balances her time with a heavy mix of basketball, school, and hanging out with friends. She is a leader that young girls at camps look up to. She excels on the basketball court, in the classroom, and is a role model to many. Dalia is a superstar inside and out. Coach Nightingale was asked about Dalia and her competitive personality as well as her ability to lead. She says that she loves her competitive heart and drive. Dalia does not like to lose and will do almost anything to win. To quote Nightingale, “Competitors compete…I love that about her.” Coach Nightingale has seen a change in Dalia’s maturity from Freshman to Junior year. She has not only grown as a leader but also helped others improve their basketball IQ and discipline on the court.
“Basketball is not just some silly sport to me, it’s one of the most consistent things in my life,” Dejesus says when questioned about what basketball actually means to her. She goes on to explain that no matter what, basketball is always there and is always something can focus her mind on. Dalia said that basketball has taught her numerous things including traits like discipline and how to be a true leader. She had a busy summer ahead playing AAU (competitive travel) basketball with her HOI team in addition to summer workouts with the Dee-Mack team as well. We wish Dalia the best of luck for the remainder of her junior season and her summer season!
