As this semester comes to a close, it can be hard to remember all of the fun and exciting events and accomplishments that the Dee-Mack High School students had over the last 5 months. Here are some highlights!
Students Succeeding at their Favorite Things:
The students at Dee-Mack High School have a wide variety of interests, passions, and talents. Within this semester, many of our students have made many accomplishments within their niche. Ryan Kuhn went to state for Cross Country, the girls volleyball team tied for the #1 team in the conference, the football team made it to the playoffs, and the band was named the 4th best area marching band by the Peoria Journal Star.
Fall Fundraisers:
The students planned and participated in many different fundraisers this semester that benefited many different organizations. The football team hosted a Blackout Game that raised money for Easter Seals and a Salute to Service game that raised money for veterans. The volleyball team hosted a Volley for a Cure night that raised money to support the fight against Breast Cancer and the girls Basketball team is raising money through their season for Camp Hope. The National Honors Society hosted a Parking Spot Painting Event that raised money for Make a Wish, the Student Council hosted a Blood Drive, and the FCCLA hosted a Sock Drive for homeless people. We also had the annual Santa Breakfast and Pancake and Sausage Supper this year! Throughout the past 5 months, we were really able to make a difference in our community.
Homecoming:
The Student Council hosted yet another successful Homecoming Week! This year’s theme was 2000s movie genres and each grade level picked a genre to decorate a hallway and float! The juniors won the hallway decorating and the sophomores won the float decorating. On Wednesday we had our annual PowderPuff Night were the Juniors won the game and the Seniors won the dance! On that night, Ryan Kuhn and Holly Hixon were also crowned the homecoming king and queen! The week was rounded out with a neon/construction themed football game and a dance on Saturday!
Senior Sunrise:
The senior class officers planned our first ever senior sunrise! Any and all seniors were invited to come to the football field at 6:00 a.m. to watch the sunrise, take pictures, play games, and have breakfast as a class. There was a great turnout and the Seniors had a great time!
Journalism Website Launch:
The Friday before Homecoming, the Journalism website was launched! As the teacher of the journalism class, Ms. Hammond worked tirelessly to make this dream a reality so the students were very excited to have their hard work displayed on the site!
Field Trips:
The students at Dee-Mack High School got to go on many different fun and educational field trips this semester! Students who showed interest in becoming educators went on a future educator field trip to ISU where they got to learn about different aspects of teaching, different departments, and ISU’s programs. The environment science classes went on a field trip to Starved Rock to hike and see the different aspects of nature they had been learning about in person. The special education students went to Sunset Hills where they got to learn about important life skills with other special education students from around the area. All students were invited to go deliver collected socks to homeless people and the band went to Cedar Point.
Band Successes:
The Dee-Mack High School band was named the #4 band in the area by the Peoria Journal Star! They performed so many beautiful songs this semester and attended every home football game. They rounded out this semester with a winter concert.
Underground Dress Up Days:
This semester, the teacher’s participated in their very first underground dress up days! The admin chose a dress up day on a random day of the week and did not tell any of the students! The students were definitely confused on the first day the did this and each of the teachers were dressed as pe teachers and then again on the day they all dress in monochromatic outfits.
I hope that everyone has a wonderful and refreshing holiday break and comes because ready to have another incredible semester!! Happy Holidays!!
