The Heisman race, the staple of college football, an heirloom recieved by only the greats. The most talked-about individual award in all of college sports. The race is on this year, with the four front-runnners being Dillon Gabriel (Oregon QB), Cam Ward (Miami QB), Travis Hunter (CB/WR), and Ashton Jeanty (Boise State RB).
Starting in Oregon with Dillon Gabriel, the 6’0” southpaw has thrown for 3,066 passing yards and 155 rushing yards through 11 games. Gabriel also has a 22-6 TD/INT ratio, one of the best in all of college football. The lefty holds an 84.2 QBR (quaterback rating), which ranks 7th among the rest. With Oregon sitting on an 11-0 record and leading the Big 10, Gabriel looks to continue his and Oregon’s success all the way to the National Championship.
Moving to the 305, Miami’s Cam Ward has had a stellar season. With a few games to go, the nonchalant righty has thrown for 3,494 yards in the air, while earning another 182 yards on the ground. Ward also holds a 32/6 TD/INT ratio, and leads the pack in QBR with an 89.4. The Texas native has led Miami to a 10-1 record as the Hurricanes sit third in the ACC behind Clemson and SMU. After a tough loss to Georgia Tech, Ward and the Hurricanes look to bounce back this week hosting Wake Forest.
Travelling Northwest to Boulder, Travis Hunter has been a standout since transferring to Colorado last year. Hunter plays both sides of the ball at receiver and corner. Hunter has 74 receptions, 911 recieving yards, averaging 12.3 YPR (yards per reception) and 9 touchdowns through 11 games. Hunter also shines on defense, at corner, the ball hawk has 19 total tackles paired with 3 interceptions, and has only given up one touchdown all season. Hunter is having a remarkable season on both sides of the ball. The Buffaloes are 8-2 and are bowl eligible for the first time since 2020 during the shortened COVID season.
Finally, from the Boise State Broncos, running back Ashton Jeanty. Jeanty has 256 carries and 1,893 rushing yards, while averaging 7.4 yards per carry. He also has 26 rushing touchdowns. The star running back has 17 receptions for 98 yards and a single receiving touchdown. With Boise State sitting at 9-1 on the year and leading the Mountain West Conference, Jeanty and the Broncos look to extend their win streak and make the new 12-team College Football Playoff in January.
Right now, Travis Hunter is the favorite to win the Heisman at -400 odds, meaning that Hunter is the most commonly bet on to win the Heisman by bettors. Ashton Jeanty is second at +400 odds. Gabriel and Ward are trailing but look to climb back. With Ward at +1200 odds and Gabriel at +2300. Between record-breakers and generational talents. Who will come out on top and earn the Heisman.
