Entering the 2024 and 2025 boys basketball season, there are two new JV coaches: Tim Finney and Joel Armendarez. As both of these coaches are new to the program entirely, we wanted to get to know more about them and their goals for the team. I first asked them what they are hoping to bring to the basketball program. Coach Finney stated that he hopes to help build the team’s toughness and overall effort as a team. He adds that there are some very talented athletes and the coaches should expect a certain level of effort from them. Coach Armendarez responded with, “My goal is to develop the young players and instill confidence, a positive work ethic, and passion as well as continue to build on their abilities and provide guidance on and off the court.” Next we wanted to learn about why they chose to coach here at Dee-Mack and why they chose basketball. Coach Finney responded with, “Teaching here has been a great opportunity for me and I have always coached wherever I have been. Coach Streitmatter and I met and discussed coaching and we see the game very similarly.” Coach Armendarez added, “I have enjoyed following the Dee-Mack athletic programs over the years and wanted to continue to support the community. I have always liked competitive team sports. Coaching basketball allows me to challenge myself, not as an active member on the court but as a motivator, leader, and communicator. I am very thankful for the opportunity.” The question to wrap up the interview was, what are you looking forward to this season? Finney’s response was, “I am looking forward to helping the boys get ready everyday.” Armendarez adds that he is “looking forward to getting to know the players and coaches on a personal level and making memories over the coming months.” The boys’ season started on November 27th. Come out and support the team!
